THE GRAVE

Each person who dies will comes across the tests in the grave, except the Shaheed (the one who dies on the path of Allah i.e. in Jihaad). This is first horrifying test which the person comes across before the Day of Judgment.

In a Hadith of Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w):
- After the death the spirit of the dead will return to a body then two Angels will come, Munkar and Nakir, and will ask: “Who is your Lord?” he will answer: “my Lord – Allah “. Then they will ask: “What is your religion?” he will answer: “My religion – Islam”. Then they will ask him: “Who that person who has been sent to you?” he will answer: “He is the Prophet of Allah Muhammad pbuh “. Then they will ask him: “How do you know?” He will answer: “I read the Book of Allah and trusted Him.

And then from heavens the voice will come: ” My Slave has told the truth, lay it to bed from Paradise and open the Gate of Paradise ” – then it will be full of pleasure and he begins to feel paradise pleasure, and his grave becomes spacious, that eyes can reach until the day of Judgment begins.

The Prophet of Allah Muhammad (s.a.w) said about the sinners.

After the death the spirit of died person will return to the body then two Angels will come and ask, “Who is your Lord?” he will answer: “I do not know”. Then they will ask: ” Who that person who has been sent to you?” he again will answer: I “do not know” – and then from the sky the voice will come: “he told a lie, Put him into a box from fire and open before it the Gate of a hell! “-then it will be captured with heat of the hell, and his tomb becomes narrow and the edges will be compressed.

In the Hadith it is also said, that Angels will severely beat the sinners during interrogation in the grave and this torture will be awful. It is informed also, that our Messenger ( s.a.w) supplicated to Allah to protect Him from tortures of a grave and asked other people to do so.

RasulAllah said reciting surah Al Mulk (Chapter 67) of the Quran before sleeping every night will protect the individual from the punishment of the grave.

HUMANS IN BARZAKH WORLD

Humans are from body and spirit. There are five connections between body and spirit ;

1. Relationship between body and spirit in the mom’s womb.

2. The relationship between both after the baby was born.

3. The relationship between both when both of them sleep

4. The relationship between them when they in barzakh’s world.

5. The relationship between them when they were awake from barzakh’s world.

Even when the spirit separated after the death , but the separation between both is not fatal . There are many proves said that the spirit will be return back to the body in the grave when it was questioned by Munkar and Nakir . The spirit was also returned when they return the salam by the person who visited the grave . The returning of this spirit is a special return and it is not a return that will bring the body alive .

REASONS FOR PUNISHMENT IN THE GRAVE

Al-‘Allamah Al-Safaarainiy said the reason for punishment in grave divided into two parts:

1.Mujmal(General) : They were tortured in the grave because of their ignorant towards Allah and they do not obey Allah’s law and doing what is prohibited by Allah (maksiat). The punishment in grave and here-after is because Allah is mad to his servants . Those who did anything that is prohibited by Allah and cause Allah’s anger and do not repent immediately to him and die in sinful way , the grave punishment is waiting for him

2. Mufassal (Specific):RasulAllah was shown and heard the punishment in grave when he passed two graves . The first was one was tortured because the he/she loves to spread malicious gossip about other people weakness and the second one because he did not take care of his hygiene during istinjak.(al bukhari and Muslim). RasulAllah dreamt (all prophets’ dreams are wahyu) , he is shown by Allah the reason humans were tortured in the grave are those who perform solah without taharah , those who passed someone that being violated but resist to help his brothers , those who recite the Quran but when he sleeps , they didn’t practice what he recite on the day , those who make free sex , those who gain riba’ , those who lazy to perform their SUbuh , those who resist to pay their zakat , those who love to spread slander in the community and those who arrogant , ria’ and love to insult anyone else whether with their action and speech(Al Bukhari)

EVIDENCE IN AL-QURAN ABOUT THE PUNISHMENT IN THE GRAVE

“Who can be more wicked thsn one who inventeth a lie against God or saith , “I have received inspiration,” when he hath received none, or (again) who saith,”I can reveal the like of what God hath revealed”? If thou couldst but see how the wicked (do fare) in the flood of confusion at death!-the angels stretch forth their hands,(saying),”Yield up your souls: this day shall ye receive your reward,-a penalty of shame, for that ye receive your reward,- a penalty of shame, for that ye used to tell lies against God, and scornfully to reject of His Signs!” 6:93

“Then God saved him from (every) ill that they plotted (against him), but the brunt of the Penalty encompassed on all sides the people of Pharaoh”

“In front if the Fire will they be brought , morning and evening: and they be brought,morning and evening: (and the sentence will be) on the Day that Judgement will be established: “Cast ye the people of Pharaoh into the severest Penalty”

40:45,46

Allah s.w.t shown (revealed) the punishment to Firaun and his followers day and night then later tortu redthem with great punishment after the Lat Day . this shown punishment before the Last Day is the grave’s punishment and not punishment in Hell even in world . This is because :

1. The punishment happens before Last Day

2. In life after death , there is no day or night

3. Punishment was not shown to Firaun in world

4. This ayah is for general and not specific to Firaun and his followers only.
