Computer
websites is a very interesting topic to learn about. In the modern world of
today, computers are extremely important and it will bring many advantages.
People will feel paralyzed if they live without computers as computers and
people nowadays cannot be separated anymore. Computer websites or websites is
used to access any information by using the Internet. People will be used the websites
to do their work or to search anything on the Internet. This is a very
interesting topic as we deal with it everyday. Computer websites is accessed
almost everyday by every individual. For example, in a workplace, workers
accessed to a specific websites in order to do their work. They will key-in
specific information or data needed by their organization into the systems by
accessing it through websites. Students also do their work and access the
information on their studies online by using websites. As a Muslim, websites
are extremely important because through websites, we can spread Islam to all
around the world. Plus we can share and know the information of Islam from
anywhere at anytime. For example, nowadays, we can read the information about
what is happening to Muslims all around the world such as in Egypt. We can also
create websites about Islam to make people understand more and deeply about
Islam. Besides being interesting, learning websites can also be very useful for
all Muslims all around the world so that we can hear each other voices and
views on Islam.[1]
A website is a
set of web pages, videos, images or other digital assets that is served from a
single web domain. Usually it is accessible through or via Internet, cell phone
or LAN. Website is a site or location on World Wide Web or WWW. The World Wide
Web is a way of searching information all around the world which is over the
medium of the Internet. Web was first invented in the CERN-The European
Laboratory for Particle Physics, Switzerland in the year 1989. Web was
dependent on web browser (such as Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape
Navigator) and hypertext transport protocol (http), the set of procedure that
enables you to send and receive file on the web. Mosaic is the earliest browser
and gain wide acceptance among the users. Every web uses the HTTP protocol
where only one specific language is used over the internet in order to send the
data. The web is used to share and exchange information and it also utilizes
browsers such as Google Chrome and Firefox in order to access the web documents
that is called as Web pages that are linked via hyperlinks. The website
contains a home page and it is the first document where users can see when they
entering the sites. A site is managed and owned either by a company,
organization or an individual and it may contain additional documents and
files. Each website will have their own domain name and most domain names
contains a few words that will describe generally what is the website is all
about. The domain name is the Uniform Resource Locater (URL) and a page of a
website can be accessed from a simple URL which is also called the web address.
The URL of the page will organize pages into a hierarchy or an order, although
hyperlinking between them conveys the reader's perceived site structure and
guides the reader's navigation of the site which generally includes a home page
with most of the links to the site's web content, and a supplementary about,
contact and link page. A website can have many functions and can be used in
various ways because a website is basically a work of an individual, a company
or an organization and it can be used for many purposes such as a business or a
personal websites.[2]
Firstly, when
creating website, we need to plan carefully. We need to plan the layout, design
and content carefully. The type of approach for the layout must be based on the
type of audience. Create the storyboard to show the hyperlinks between pages. Make
sure that the each page is linked to the home page (starting page). Secondly,
ensure that all pages are consistent. Use templates so that all the elements in
the page will be placed in the same location throughout your website. Thirdly,
create sites that are visual. Always balance the usage of text and images. For
the background, use the white color. Besides that, use the element of sound and
animation but do not overdo it, because it will slow down the downloading
process. Fourthly, create homepage that is simple. The starting page must be
simple and without scroll, it should be hyperlinked to the other pages on your
website. Next, the website should be credible. The website has an e-mail
address link to be contacted and put some info, address and brief description
about the site. Lastly, double check the work. Check that all the links are workable,
spelling and grammar and the navigation page by page. Check also whether all
the layouts function logically and try the website by using different browsers
to see whether it displays the same way as the browsers.[3]
When designing a
website, web usability features need to be given importance. This will ensure
that the web site continues to attract high hits as well as maintaining it
constantly. The elements that need to give importance are such as color, text,
style, page size, graphics, consistency, and navigation. Choosing the color is
very important because, by picking the wrong color, it could spoil the website.
It is better to use white or pastel colors for background. Text is also
important to convey information because with text message can be delivered
exactly and clearly. There are four different generations in designing website
styles. The first generation website is display text and images from top to
down and left to right approach, which is divided by using the returns and
data-stream separator such as the bullet and horizontal rules while the second
generation is the features and characteristic are similar with the first
generation but icon is used to replace the text for menu. Next, the third
generation is combination of creative layout and visual typography are being
used. The websites are designed to be
user friendly and easy to navigate, the content are normally content with high
value. Lastly, the fourth generation sites are an extension of third generation
where designed sites have been referred to as being multimedia rich site.
Always ensure that the size of the website is short because those pages with
scrollbars are always difficult to navigation and it also makes finding
information hard. Web site size is determined by two factors which are monitor
size and display resolution. The most common monitor sizes today are 15 to 17
inches (38 to 43 cm). The display resolution on these monitors is usually
either 1024 x 768 pixels or 800 x 600 pixels. Graphics used an element of
decoration should be minimized because it slows down the process of downloading
and distracts the users attention. Most of the graphics on the web are either
GIF or JPEG graphic formats. GIF files
are quite suitable for diagram images and animations while JPEG are suitable
for images that are big and complex. When creating the layout and design,
ensure that use a consistence approach. This will allow the user to be in ease
with the designs around your website. Provide navigation tools such as buttons;
always make sure that it is placed consistently throughout the website. Each
page must have a link that could link it to the home page or to any navigation
point in the website.[4]
Nowadays,
computers are wonderful machines. They are everywhere and society depends on
them to manage our world. It is no wonder that computers have almost unlimited
applications, and that they are multiplying at a steady rate. Many of these
applications are benefiting society directly or indirectly. The important ways
computer websites are benefiting society is by creating more technology
professions[5],
share information about a business and social networking website to communicate
with each other. As new computers are sold to consumers, the demand for more IT
professions will rise because consumers will need these professionals to
maintain, upgrade and repair their new computer systems. More employment is
also made available when new computer applications are discovered. This makes
sense because new applications require new professionals that are trained to
deal with that specific application. For example, when the World Wide Web was
introduced, many new professions arose. Some of these professions range from
website designers and server administrators to online marketers. These factors
show that computer websites are being benefiting society directly by creating
new information technology professions, which is vitally important to the
development of any countries labor force. Besides that, people can share
knowledge with other people by creating a website. Social networking websites
are getting popular on web among the computer users. This shows the socializing
nature of the people in the society. The websites are registered on World Wide
Web with the intention of helping people to get socialized with one another and
also with those belonging to different sectors of society.[6]
In this society,
we can use computer websites as a business which is provide business
information and communicate with each other as well as sharing information
especially about Islam more detailed. As a business owner, we used computer
website to promote the business in this society. In the website, we provide
information to get more credibility. Consumers have more confidence in and
prefer doing business with companies that they know something about. Besides
that, want the business to be found and get new customers. Millions of
consumers today search for products and services online before making
purchases. Chances are that if someone is looking for a product or service they
will search in the internet. The business provides customer service to more
satisfied customers. Consumers can become educated about the business and get
answers by many of their questions which will help to cut back on the number of
phone calls receive with simple enquiries. The website can provide further
support to existing customers by offering information such as troubleshooting
procedures, product specification and parts list, how-to procedures, diagrams
and special help lines. By having this help available 24 hours a day you will
be able to decrease the number of customer service employees that you have on
staff. Therefore, by using the website we can communicate with each other and
sharing information especially about Islam. Nowadays, many people want to know
about Islam more detailed. So, we can create a special website that provided
all the information about Islam more detailed based on Al-Quran and Sunnah. We
can design the website to become an interesting website that can attract people
to open and read our website. Technically, by learning to create a website, we
can propagate the Islam indirectly. Thus, to spread of Islam is one of our
responsibilities as a Muslim in the earth.[7]
Nowadays, there
are many people misuse of the computer website in this society. Computer and
internet availability is not a big issue now. Most of the people try to misuse
the computer resources. Some willing misuse the computer and some people
unknowingly misuse the law. There are many categories of computer misuse. There
are computer hacking[8],
exploitation of the data, unconstitutional relocation of the data or
photocopying[9],
abusing people through chat rooms and emails, pornography, financial abuses and
identities as well as virus. To prevent the computer misuses, the Computer
Misuse Act 1990[10]
was introduced. It was introduced due to a number of reasons. Hackers were able
to gain access past security and see data stored on other computers using an
Internet connection. Copying can also be quick and easy using online computers
and large storage devices such as hard disks. Personal data and written work,
such as textbooks, can all be copied without permission. Copies of music tracks
from music CDs could be distributed on the Internet using computer equipment.
This misuse of computers and the Internet breaks copyright regulations. Spam is
another abuse with millions of e-mails being sent to advertise both legal and
illegal products. Viruses are also being made which are designed to cause
damage to other computers. Other than the Act, parents should also be aware of
basic guidelines which may reduce the risks of misuse of the computer website
by their children. First, learn about the computer by yourself. Understand how
to access a record of the history of use on the computer and then periodically
use this facility. Second, set limits to time spent on the computer. In
encouraging the children to manage computers and the internet, it is important
to recognize that this is not a substitution for real social contact and other
activities. Limiting time that a young people spend on the computer is a
helpful boundary to set. Next, manage the information from the internet. When
they are using the computer and accessing the Internet, children need teaching
how to manage the information they find. Without support, children and young
people are likely to think that because the information is on the internet, it
is right and to be believed. Lastly, be in charge. Parents should remember that
they are in charge of young people who use computers to access the Internet in
their homes. In conclusion, as a Muslim, we should know that what it is right
and wrong in Islamic religion. We should remember that all activity that we are
doing are being watched by our god which is Allah SWT. Allah says : “ Allah is He, than Whom there is no other
god-Who knows(all things) both secret and open ; He, Most Gracious, Most
Merciful ”[11]
The main factor
why I would like to teach about computer website is because it is something
that is common to us and we use it everyday. One thing we know for sure is that
the usage of websites has become a growing part of everyone's lives. People
will connect to the internet and open websites for a variety of everyday
activities including watching tv and movies, listening to music, reading news
and gaming. Websites and people is something that cannot be separated anymore
in daily live. Besides that, teaching about computer websites means that
sharing on knowledge. Islam really encourage Muslims to share their knowledge
to everyone else. Knowing how to use websites means knowing how to search for
more knowledge. For me, teaching people about computer website is not just
about teaching them about it but it will also teach them that from a website,
they can get more than what they can imagine.
The latest research
survey released found that Muslim internet-users abroad had a lot of favorable
opinion of Western civilization however did not impact their religion. Western
people do think that Muslims that knew more and use to computer websites will
be more open-minded and easier to make as a friend. The poll across thirty-nine
countries across Africa, Asia, Europe and the Middle East found a median of 18
% of Muslims respondents access the world-wide-web at home, for work or during
school. The poll honed in closely on the views of Muslims in twenty five
countries amped found people who more were a lot of likely to enjoy Western
entertainment, including movies, music and tv and “somewhat less inclined to
mention that Western entertainment is harming morality in their country,”[12] according
to pew in a statement. These findings remained constant despite age, education
or gender. The distinction between net users, who tended to be younger and
higher educated, and non-internet users were vital in countries like
Kyrgyzstan, Senegal, Russia and Indonesia, with Muslim net users at least 30 %
more likely to have a positive view of the Western entertainment. While the
poll found the internet did not make much difference in Muslims’
interpretations of their faith, the internet-savvy “somewhat more likely” to
examine common ground between Islam and Christianity.
As stated before, websites contains text,
graphics, audio and video, which can be used to form a great resource for
Muslims. Muslim organizations and individuals from all backgrounds and with
different interests and areas of concentration have homepages or sites with
information that can be accessed according to need. In websites, there is
reference works, including the Holy Qur'an, most of the famous Hadith books
translated into English. Websites contain special interest pages include those
for new Muslims, non-Muslims, sisters, parents and others. Websites are not limited by physical bounds, users can access the latest
news from all around the world such as Pakistan and Egypt from online newspapers,
see beautiful ‘Masjid’ that they might never visit, and hear Khutba’s of
scholars they might never hear. Besides that, a
large number of Islamic books and articles is also available for free in the
websites. Software on the websites such as the entire translations of Qur'an,
hadith collections, prayer time calculation tables, sound files of Azan and
recitation and Arabic tutorials are all available for downloading through FTP. Programs
are both shareware and freeware. Websites also have is the ability to 'link' to another page by clicking onto
an icon or title. This often opens doors for interesting pages that might
otherwise be hard to find. This link feature often works as a treasure map,
following links to find new goodies. Most text and graphics are downloadable,
which can then be used in an E-mail, UNIX or word processing document. Most
audio and video applications require an additional 'plug-in' (a software
program that will translate a file into the appropriate format). In addition, websites
can also be used in order to add our knowledge about something as it contains
many information and knowledge. In Al-Quran, Allah said about those who believed and acquired knowledge:
"Allah will raise up, to (suitable) ranks and
(degrees), those of you who believe and who have been granted knowledge. And
Allah is well-acquainted with all you do."[13]
When a servant of Allah is granted knowledge, he will
appreciates Allah's creation more, and becomes more acquainted with Allah's
attributes and qualities. Consequently, he wholeheartedly witnesses that his
Creator is the only one worthy of worship, and then submits to Him humbly.
This, in return, generates in his heart a fear, which is akin to a full
appreciation and love of Allah.
